It's springtime.  This is a very active time for termites.

This time of year presents the perfect time to start new termite colonies.   Due to most termites dependence on moisture most of this happens during the spring or fall.  After a rain storm when the moisture is high, young termite queens and kings will leave the colony to start a new one.  These flying termites have wings that allow them to fly a short distances.

They tend to all "swarm" out of the colony together, hence the common name: termite swarmers.   You can sometimes find swarms of them around lights, stuck in spider webs and along window sills.

A king and queen termite will pair off and start a new colony.  T
